LOVE… A funny four-letter word that l had no experience with and for the life of me could not comprehend.
For most of my life, I’ve sought out this “magical” love that I’ve seen displayed in movies and heard so much about. But somehow it has evaded me at every turn. It seemed as if love was purposely avoiding me, and l couldn’t understand why.
The love I knew came with bruises and scars. The love I knew made me feel like I deserved it and that I would not amount to anything.
“Am l somehow too damaged to love or be loved?” “Did love not want to be linked to the likes of me?”
See, I was desperate for love! Since I could not find it at home, I tried to find solace in men. Men who said they loved me but cheated. Men who said they loved me but belittled and used me.
“Well, at least they are not beating me, so it’s not that bad.”
We as women in society have been conditioned to accept love in any form because love wasn’t perfect. You have to take what you can get right? WRONG!
Men, bottles, and parties could not fill the gaping void l felt…I was heartbroken.
I was scarred by “love”.
I was scarred by what l thought was love.
Our perception of love are often times heavily influenced by our environment and upbringing. Which in most cases lack the proper definition of the word.
We have squandered love to just a feeling that makes you warm inside. When in fact love is an action word.
Could it be that we have limited love and therefore could not embrace love in its totality?
The reality is that we’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places.
To experience true love, we first must look towards the one who is love.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:7–8).
His eyes revealed the depths of his love for humanity. An agape type of love. A love that cannot be contained. It breaks through the barriers of human comprehension. A love that heals, restores, delivers, and covers.
In his love, he sent his only son to die a gruesome death, so that through him we could be reconciled back to God.
Jesus was the perfect depiction of love in totality!
What a beautiful love song it was! Psalm 89:1
God has loved us since conception, but has been waiting for us to come into a revelation of his love. To know God is to know that he is love. How well you love is an indication of how knowledgeable of God you are.
The ability to love well is a byproduct of the transformation that is taking place on the inside. Love should flow from the inside out.
The Creator of the universe has chosen us to reflect His loving nature.
I’ve been looking for love, but it’s been right beside me all along.
Love has never left my side. My first love, you're every breath that I take. You're every step I make.
I have indeed known love in its greatest form. So now that I’m aware of his endless love... it’s time to embrace it.
Two hearts, two hearts that beat as one. Our lives have just begun.
I have welcomed him with open arms and have allowed his love to wash over me, over and over again.
His endless love has produced, indescribable joy and unaltered peace!
