Heyo lil Mayos!
The poem below was the first poem I ever wrote. It took me through one of the hardest periods in my life and I hope it will help you as well.
God, I don’t know what to do.
Stuck at a crossroad between what seems to be death and confusion.
Though like Moses you said you’ll never leave me,
Nowhere was light to be found,
Like a tunnel without an end.
God! Where are you!
Knock and it shall be opened?
Seek and you shall find?
I’ve knock with bruised hands,
Looked from an eye that seems to be blind,
Blinded by criticism,
Blinded by hatred,
Blinded by lust,
Blinded by the one who kills steals and destroys.
So flesh became strong and spirit grew feeble.
No longer ate the food from your table.
Convinced to go elsewhere but like the prodigal son ended up in a stable.
Been robbed blind,
No joy, no, no strength,
Barely enough hope but just enough faith to keep hold of the strand.
!!! GOD!!! !!!GOD!!! !!!WHERE ARE YOU!!!
So like the prodigal son I come back to your throne.
Knowing my behavior you will not condone.
So I kneel at your throne,
Begging your mercy, asking your grace,
That my disobedience and ignoring your command you will forgive.
For the time not spent at your feet, in your word,
Starving the spirit instead of the flesh,
God but now I look to you.
Seems impossible
The walls of depression, oppression, suicide, anger and ignorance,
That all come with a hint of death
Then you said march and sing?!
Seemed dumb to me.
Especially because the residents were not strangers,
But church goers that simply ignore the love you stand for,
The cross you bore,
Your flesh they tore,
The miles you walked
Cause it doesn’t matter right?
Sleep, eat and be merry during a war?
When soldiers are being hurt?
And just ignore the the fact that souls are being lost!
Then the blood, your blood just wouldn’t make sense.
And through it all your response is to march and sing?
Never realizing that pain and hurt could be cured by something so sweet coming from my lips.
Words that will adore and lift you up,
Words known as worship.
Simply ignoring that what I say may make or break my circumstances
And that’s just the power of the spoken word.
Imagine that with just a dose of your blood and a generous sprinkle of prayer?
Your blood
Blood that stains but cleans,
Blood that breaks chains and set captives free.
The blood that protects
That blood… your blood
Then communicating with you would be like hitting the jackpot!
No wonder
you said one shall chase a thousand and two, ten thousand to flight
So I declare that I’m no longer paralyzed!
No one to push me around,
Not a puppet to be controlled by strings.
Because your love overcame it all!
Your love… that gives life
Your love… that caused you to die for me
